About Papua

Western Papua occupies the western half of New Guinea. This island is located immediately south of the equator, and is the world’s second largest island, following Greenland. Western Papua provides a panoply of Old World tropical species.

Papua is the largest province in Indonesia with the Christian population majority. In addition to the land, Papua also has many islands along the coast. There are Biak, Numfor, Yapen and Mapia on the north coast. In the southern coast, there is also Kalepon Island, Komoran, Adi, Dolak, and Panjang, while in the eastern part adjacent to Papua New Guinea. In Papua, there are hundreds of ethnicities with different cultures and customs. The population of Papua itself can be divided into 3 major group namely coastal, rural areas and mountainous inhabitants. There are hundreds of developing regional languages, which make it difficult to communicate between one ethnic and another. Therefore, the Indonesian language is used as the official language of the people of Papua up to the hinterland.

Founder

The journey of PT Adventure Carstensz as a world tour operator for ecotourism and travel throughout the Carstensz Pyramid in Papua cannot be separated from the role of Maximus Tipagau. Since 2008, Maximus established Adventure Carstensz, a tourism company based in Papua. He believes that companies engaged in tourism will bring prosperity to the people of Papua. However, starting from 2010, Maximus introduced Papua travel in Internationale Tourismus-Bourse (ITB) Berlin and World Travel Market (WTM) in London. In 2016, Adventure Carstensz continues to expand its network to Spain and Austria through the event FITUR Madrid and Ferien Messe in Austria.

Some media noted, Maximus was the first person from Papua who promotes Carstensz Pyramid. Maximus has also been a speaker at several national and international events in Europe. Men born in 1983 also have produced a book entitled “Guide to Carstensz Pyramid in West Papua” in 2015. Maximus did not only focus on the tourism business. These hard-working men established Somatua Foundation aimed to build independence, skills and equity in education and health. Maximus, through Somatua Foundation, is also actively involved in Doctor Share, flying doctors service to isolated areas.

Dingiso (Dendrolagus mbaiso)

Native and endemic to Western Papua of Indonesia, Dingiso is a species of tree-kangaroo that inhabit highlands. As believed and assumed to be the ancestor of and by the Moni tribe of Papua, Dingiso is necessarily an inportant symbol for the Moni people.

3. Actively engage in improving the economy of local communities through educaion and cooperation with various parties in the field of tourism and creation of creative at the village level to reduce urbanization and financial dependence on local goverment and the private sector.
